Types Of E-Liquids

Freebase Nicotine

Freebase nicotine is the most common type of nicotine used in e-liquids and will likely be the most common e-liquid you will find anywhere. Freebase nicotine is the same type of nic used in traditional cigarettes, which provides a noticeable throat hit and is often preferred by heavy smokers or beginner vapers. Freebase nic is absorbed much more slowly by your body compared to Nic salts and is compatible with pretty much any vape kit on the market.

Salt Nicotine

Salt Nicotine e-liquids still satisfy cravings in the same way freebase nic does but provides a much smoother throat hit, even at higher strengths. Nic salts are also absorbed into the bloodstream much faster than Freebase liquids and provide a much longer-lasting hit – This makes them incredibly popular among those looking for a smooth hit that allows them to have longer intervals between vapes. You will find that the majority of salt nic e-liquids use a 50/50 VG/PG ratio and are available in a range of strengths most commonly 10mg or 20mg, but lower strengths are becoming more and more common.

High VG Liquids

The term ‘High VG’ refers to the level of Vegetable Glycerin present in the e-liquid. The most common High VG liquids use a ratio of 70% VG and 30% PG or even an 80/20 ratio. These e-liquids are designed for ‘Cloud Chasing’ due to their huge vapour production levels and are also known as Sub-Ohm juices.  High VG liquids are much thicker than 50/50 or High PG liquids and can very easily burn out a coil in a matter of days, requiring more maintenance. These liquids are much less popular as they are considered to be more for show and trick vaping and are not very helpful in assisting users to quit smoking.

High PG Liquids

High PG liquids provide a fierce but satisfying throat hit and much sharper flavour when compared to High VG liquids. As you may be able to guess, the term ‘High PG’ refers to the higher ratio of Propylene Glycol to Vegetable Glycerin. These e-liquids provide an incredibly similar experience to traditional cigarettes and are therefore very popular with those using vaping to quit smoking or beginner vapers in general. Often referred to as ‘classic’ or ‘starter’ e-liquids, High PG vape juices have been around since the very start of vaping and are still incredibly popular to this day.

High PG e-liquids are ideal for starter vape kits and pens and are available in a huge range of flavours and nic strengths.

50/50 E-Liquids

50/50 refers to the concentration ratio used in the e-liquid, 50% Vegetable Glycerin and 50% Propylene Glycol. Providing a perfect balance between vapour production, flavour and smooth throat hits. The PG enhances the flavour of the liquid while the VG lessens the fierce throat hit and provides the vapour produced when the liquid is heated by the coil. 50/50 E-liquids are the most versatile of all e-liquids as they are compatible with the vast majority of vape kits and devices on the market. They can be used in classic starter kits, pod devices and can even be used with more advanced sub-ohm devices/tanks at higher outputs.

50/50 E-liquids, like most others, are available in a range of nicotine strengths including 3mg, 6mg, 12mg and 18mg. If you are just switching from cigarettes to vaping, you may want to use a higher nicotine strength to more accurately simulate the cigarette experience. However, 3mg and 6mg strengths are usually the sweet spot for fantastic flavour and cloud production whilst maintaining a smooth throat hit.

Nicotine Free

Nicotine Free E-liquids are, as the name suggests, E-liquids that contain 0mg of nicotine. Those who use Nicotine free liquids usually fall into one of two groups, either those who are trying to cut down on nicotine intake or those who simply enjoy the experience but have never used nicotine and prefer not to. Most Nicotine Free liquids come in short fill bottles, which contain an amount of liquid with some empty space at the top of the bottle for additional nicotine shots to be added. Nic shots usually come in 10ml bottles in a range of strengths, allowing users to fully customise the strength of their liquid and are completely optional.  There are plenty of top vape brands producing nicotine-free shortfills in all of their popular flavours, including fruity blends, dessert blends, candy-inspired flavours and many more. These liquids are most commonly found with 70/30 concentration ratios but are still available in other ratios such as 50/50 or 80/20.

Are E-Liquids Cheaper Than Smoking?

Short Answer – Yes

The average cost of a pack of cigarettes in the UK is £10.80, say you smoke one pack a day. That averages out at nearly £4,000 a year.

The average price of a 100ml short fill e-liquid is around £10 and will last most users a minimum of 2 weeks depending on usage and can even be longer. The main costs of vaping come from the initial device purchase, if you invest in a quality device upfront and maintain it well it can last for years. Then you only really need to occasionally pick up replacement coils and more e-liquid every so often which works out much cheaper than buying a £10 pack of cigarettes every day.

There are also plenty of special offers available on vape devices and e-liquids. We at Vapourhub offer a huge range of sales and bundle deals at reduced prices, perfect if you are looking for a new device with some free liquids and coils.
