Coils are placed inside your vape tank, and will usually consist of a coiled piece of wire which is wrapped in a wicking material like cotton. The wick soaks up the e-liquid in the tank, and when powered, the coil heats up and turns it into vapour which you then inhale. There is a wide range of different coils that allow you to tailor your vape experience however you like and we supply replacement coils for a wide range of different brands including SMOK, VooPoo, Aspire, and many more. Vape Coils are the most essential component of any vape device. Coils are the heating element in the tank, similar to the ones found in household kettles, which is heated by an electrical charge from the battery when the device is activated which then heats the e-liquid in the tank or pod device and produces the flavour and clouds that users would then inhale.
Coils consist of a length of coiled wire and a wicking material (usually cotton) that soaks up the e-liquid and then turns it into vapour when heated. Vape Coils can be made from a variety of materials depending on the brand and the device they are used with including, mesh wire, ceramic, titanium or Kanthal wire. Each material provides a different quality of vapour and flavour.
The lifespan of Vape Coils can vary depending on the user, if you are a frequent user you can expect your coil to last around one to two weeks whereas if you only vape occasionally, you can expect your coil to last around a month. There are several signals your device will give you when your coil is burnt out such as a change in taste, unexpected leaks, a gurgling type noise when vaping or e-liquid spitting out the mouthpiece.
If your Vape Coils tend to burn out quickly, there may be a few reasons as to why:
Chain Vaping: If you often use the device repeatedly, as in several times within a short amount of time, the cotton in your coil will struggle to absorb enough e-liquid in time to keep moisturised and will cause your coil to dry prematurely. This will cause your cotton to burn quickly and leave a burnt taste when you vape. To avoid this, make sure you wait at least a few seconds between your draws.
Empty Tank: If your e-liquid levels are running low inside your tank, there is a possibility that the liquid will struggle to reach the cotton in your coil. This causes the coil to burn dry and damages the cotton, causing a burnt aftertaste whenever you inhale. To avoid this issue, try to maintain your e-liquid levels to over half full whenever possible and be mindful of chain vaping when your levels are low.
Regular cleaning of the coil is required for a better vaping experience. Follow the below-mentioned steps to clean your vape coil –
Kanthal is a combination of iron, chromium and aluminium and one of the most common materials used in both pre-made and homemade coils. Kanthal is a popular material because it has a quick ramp-up time and creates an impressive amount of vapour. Kanthal coils are only suitable to be used in wattage mode and is soft and easy to work with the wire that can maintain its shape nicely.
Titanium wires are especially soft and malleable making them easy to handle, twist and cut. Titanium coils are usually more expensive than other coils such as Kanthal and Stainless Steel, but that hasn’t stopped it from being a widely used material for a range of coils.
There are concerns and discussions about the overall safety of titanium coils, as titanium is also used in fireworks and is more flammable than other coil materials. Most devices that use a titanium coil offer a TC Ti mode, which essentially prevents the material from overheating.
Stainless Steel is one of the most versatile metals you can use, as it can be used in both temperature control mode and wattage mode. If maintained correctly a stainless steel coil can last up to 25 years. Stainless steel is easy to form and holds its shape well and it offers a faster ramp time than Kanthal due to its lower resistance. Take note to not dry burn stainless steel at high wattages when checking for hotspots or cleaning your build, as this might lead to the release of unwanted chemicals which can cause health issues.
Ceramic Coils are porous, which lets air pass through very well and offers a super smooth draw. Many users find that ceramic coils produce much better flavour than other materials due to the fantastic passage of air. Ceramic Coils tolerate high wattages well so they are a great addition to higher-powered mod kits. Ceramic coils have also been touted to last longer than cotton coils and help prevent dry hits.
